Ernst-Felix Krüder joined Kaiserliche Marine as a Seekadett and went to the naval school.

Ernst-Felix Krüder was given the command of the auxiliary cruiser Pinguin (HSK 5) on 6 February 1940 and remained in command until 8 May 1941.
