Personal Information:

Hans-Joachim Gadow was born on 6 September 1898 in Tillendorf and was a serving member of the Kriegsmarine during World War II and managed to attain the rank of Konteradmiral and went on to command the following Z4, Möwe, Wolf and Tiger.

Hans-Joachim Gadow joined Kaiserliche Marine as a Seekadett on 3 October 1916 and went to the naval school in Mürwik and continued his training on board heavy cruiser Freya.

Hans-Joachim Gadow first command was out fleet tender M134 which began on 25 September 1925 until March 1927. He was then transferred to torpedo boat V6 on 23 November 1927 until 14 January 1929, he was then transferred to the torpedo boat Tiger on 15 January 1929 until 27 September 1929. He was transferred to the torpedo boat Wolf on 28 September 1929 until 30 August 1930. He then transferred to the torpedo boat Möwe on 31 August 1930 until 27 September 1930. In 1937 Hans-Joachim Gadow was given command of the destroyer Z4 Richard Beitzen on 13 May 1937 until 15 May 1938.
