Josias von Heeringen, son of Josias von Heeringen, court president of Hesse, was born March 9th 1850 and entered the Prussian army in 1867. In 1906 Josias von Heeringen was a general of infantry and in command of the 2nd army corps.

Two years afterwards Josias von Heeringen was minister of war. In 1913 Josias von Heeringen was inspector general of the Prussian guard, the 12th and 19th corps at Berlin. When the Great War broke out Josias von Heeringen was command-in-chief of the 7th army which advanced through the North Vosges in August 1914. In August 1916 Josias von Heeringen was put in charge of the coast defences.

In September 1918 Josias von Heeringen was placed in retirement and died in Berlin, October 9th, 1926.
