Personal Information:

Ludwig Mathes was born on 23 November 1908 in Kaiserslautern, Germany and was a serving member of the Kriegsmarine during World War II and managed to attain the rank of Korvettenkapitän and went on to command the following U-6, U-9 and U-44.

Ludwig Mathes joined Reichsmarine as a Seekadett on 1928 and went to the naval school.

Ludwig Mathes was given the command of the U-boat U-6 on 7 September 1935 and remained in command until 30 September 1937 he was then transferred to the U-boat U-9 on 1 October 1937 until 18 September 1935 he was then once again transferred to the U-boat U-44 on 4 November 1939 until 13 March 1940 which he lost his life after hitting a British mine there were no survivors from the U-boat U-44.
