Personal Information:

Otto Hartmann was born on 18 April 1917, Stuttgart and was a serving member of the Kriegsmarine during World War II and managed to attain the rank of Kapitänleutnant and went on to command the following U-77.

Otto Hartmann joined Reichsmarine as a Seekadett and went to the naval school in Mürwik and continued his training on board training ship Gorch Fock. In 1941 Otto Hartmann transferred to the U-boat arm, where he received his training. He joined U-97 as first watch officer and after he had served his time aboard took command of U-77 2 September 1942 until 28 March 1943.
