Fallschirmjäger-Division

Wilhelm Süßmann joined Kaiserliche Heer as a Fahnenjunker (Cadet) and company officer is in the 22nd Infantry-Regiment on 27 October 1909.

Wilhelm Süßmann was given the command of the fighter squadron Kampfgeschwader 254 on 1 April 1937 and remained in command until 31 October 1938 he was then transferred to the fighter squadron Kampfgeschwader 155 on 1 November 1938 until 30 April 1939 he was then transferred to the fighter squadron Kampfgeschwader 55 on 1 May 1939 until 7 March 1940 he was then transferred to the 1st airborne division 1. Fallschirmjägerdivision on 1 October 1940 20 May 1941.

Wilhelm Süßmann was killed in action during the Battle of Crete while serving with 1. Fallschirmjägerdivision (1st Airborne Division).
